Why did you choose the law?
The law is something which I have always been interested in and when I attended an Open Day at City College I decided to enroll onto the CILEx route. This enabled me to study to qualify as a lawyer whilst working and gaining practical experience.
Tell us a bit about how you got here…
I joined the firm in 2003 and have specialised in Wills, Trusts and Probate since 2005. I studied in the evenings at City College whilst working full time and qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2009.
What does your day job look like?
I am a Senior Associate in the Wills Trusts and Probate Team.
My caring and patient approach with clients ensures a clear and open relationship in what often can be difficult personal circumstances.
My areas of expertise include Will Drafting (from straightforward to complex Wills incorporating Asset Protection Trusts), Inheritance Tax planning, the formation and administration of Trusts, Probate and Estate Administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection applications (such as Deputyship and Trustee applications).
I am also a fully qualified and accredited member of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers previously known as Solicitors for the Elderly. The Association of Lifetime Lawyers is an independent organisation that provides specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.
I am also a full member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). STEP is the leading worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning.
I’m also a ‘Dementia Friend’. The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends initiative enables people to understand the condition and it changes the perception people have on dementia. The initiative makes a difference to someone with dementia as it provides others with an insight into how it may affect them.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I was born and raised in Coventry. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my young family, music, theatre and travelling – I fondly remember trips to Mauritius and New York, with a highlight being watching the sunset at the top of the Empire State Building.
