Tell us a bit about how you got here…
Born and raised in Yorkshire, I moved to Coventry to study for a Business Law degree at what was then Coventry (Lanchester) Polytechnic. I joined Band Hatton for a year’s work experience in 1987 and have been here ever since!
What does your day job look like?
I am the firm’s compliance partner (‘COLP’) with partnership responsibility for client care, professional quality and risk management.
With almost 30 years’ experience as a litigation practitioner, I have wide ranging experience, but my particular areas of specialism are commercial and business disputes, including in particular commercial property and related issues such as insolvency and debt recovery.
Advising and representing clients in these areas of law requires understanding of each client’s needs and objectives as well as technical knowledge and experience to give the right advice when it is needed in order to secure the right outcome. I have extensive experience of litigating cases in all areas of the courts & tribunals as well mediation to secure commercially viable settlements. Over the years I have established a strong network of other professionals to work alongside.
My most memorable career moment to date was as a trainee when I appeared as an agent for the Treasury Solicitor’s Department in an application at Coventry County Court which gave me the opportunity to introduce myself as representing “the First Lord of the Treasury, the Right Honourable John Major MP”. Unfortunately the then Prime Minister didn’t have the time to complete our client satisfaction questionnaire…
What do you like to do outside of work?
I live in Coventry with my wife Alison, our 2 daughters and various pets and other animals. We try to make the most of the great opportunities Coventry and Warwickshire has to offer (dog included).
I am also on the Board of the Belgrade Theatre and am Chairman of Coventry & Warwickshire First.
